Annual Academic Events

  • Speech Meet

    Fall Semester (1st-8th grade students)

The ACS Speech Meet gives our students the opportunity to develop their public speaking skills in an encouraging environment. Students demonstrate their ability by delivering a memorized poem, speech, or passage in front of a small panel of judges. Students are evaluated on their ability to speak audibly, articulately, expressively and confidently. They do not compete against one another.

  • Science & Engineering Fair & Invention Convention

    Spring Semester (5th-8th grade students)

Students in our sixth through eighth grades participate in the ACS Science Fair and our fifth graders submit an entry to the ACS Invention Convention. ACS Science Fair participants are given the opportunity to research and investigate a scientific question using the scientific method. Our fifth graders are asked to explore their natural curiosity and invent a creative solution to a problem they feel no successful solution exists as yet. Top qualifiers will move on to the New Mexico Regional Science Fair and Invention Convention.

  • Spelling Bee

    Spring Semester (1st-8th grade students)

The ACS Spelling Bee gives our students the opportunity to exhibit their spelling skills in a competitive environment. Students are provided a list of spelling words to study for a period of time and will then compete against their classmates in front of a small panel of judges. Qualifying students move on to the district spelling bee with a chance to continue on to regionals.

  • National History Day

    Spring Semester (6th-8th grade students)

ACS History Day is an opportunity for our middle school students to complete an in-depth research project in an area of history they find particularly interesting. Students utilize and develop their critical thinking, problem solving, research and reading skills to complete their projects. Students are allowed to prepare a project in the following categories: documentary, dramatic reenactment, historical display. More than half a million students compete in National History Day across the country and we are blessed to have this program at our school.
